Shelburne Midgets win over Midland in game three of playoffs

The Shelburne Wolves Midgets won their third game of the round-robin format minor hockey playoffs over Midland leaving the ice with a 7–3 win on Saturday, February 21.

The Wolves led the game from the start and continued to keep up the pressure for the duration.

“We picked up that game so now we’re 1–2 for the playoffs,” said coach Dan Best. “With a little bit of luck and some good bounces, we should have a strong showing the rest of the way.”

Wolves goals came from Dylan Dever, Justin Bennett, Spencer Martin for two, Brandon Long, and Brad Earle.

In net, goalie Caleb Best played a solid game shutting down the Midland offence with a series of good saves.

Going forward, the squad will have to keep it together as they play four games in one week – a schedule Best said will test the squad.

“The boys really responded well today so things really seem to be working,” Best said of the team’s performance in Saturday’s game. “We’ve made some minor adjustments for the next few games because we’ve got four games in the next week. It’s going to be a tough schedule with games on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.”

The squad has struggled with injuries this season, but have still come through as a team, Best said.

“I think it’s the camaraderie with the boys has a lot to do with it. They have fun. Our defenceman can play solid. We had a couple of breakdowns today, but when they’re playing as a unit they’re pretty solid.”

The team will travel to Essa twice this week, then up to Collingwood for road games.

The Midgets will return to home ice at CDRC on Saturday, March 2, to host Essa.

The puck is scheduled to drop at 3 p.m.
