Wolves Peewee LL2 win over Dundalk

The Shelburne Wolves Peewee LL2 team earned another win during the round-robin playoff series after leaving the ice with a 6–1 win over Dundalk on Saturday.

“We’re doing really well in the playoffs,” Said head coach Rob Fetterly. “That was our fourth win in seven games. We’ve had four wins, a tie and a loss.”

The Wolves are playing in the third tier of the league which has a total of 24 teams.

In Saturday’s game the Wolves played a stellar defence by keeping the Dundalk team to the outside and stopping the attackers from getting in scoring position in front of the net.

Goalie Brandon Donnelly came within a minute of getting the shut-out but a short scramble in front of the net saw a Dundalk goal with less than a minute remaining on the clock.

The squad has improved their play since entering the playoffs and the results are seen in their playoff record.

“They’re playing their positions better, they’re getting a jump on their speed and going to the net for the rebounds. We picked up three rebound goals today, which is something we’ve been practicing on. The team is looking more for the passes and looking to forecheck more,” Fetterly said of what the team has been doing right.

The Wolves’ goals were the result of some well coordinated play in the Dundalk zone and capitalizing on opportunities when the chance was there.

The late game goal may have stopped the shut-out but as Fetterly pointed out, “The other teams word hard to get that goal.”

The Peewee LL2 team still has a few games left in the season as the wrap up the playoff round.

The Peewees will return to home ice at CDRC on Saturday, March 8, to host the team from Midland. The puck drop is scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
