Police warn of dangers as weather warms up

April 3, 2014   ·   0 Comments

The Shelburne Police is reminding all residents to be extra cautious around creeks and retention ponds as the large amount of snow from the winter melts over the next few weeks.

Every year our creeks and ponds swell up and develop fast moving currents. Due to the unusual heavy build-up of snow this year, these water ways can be expected to be extra hazardous.

Stay away from all water ways! It is important for everyone to stay away from the water ways this spring. It is especially important for parents to monitor and remind their children to stay away from all water features. It is recommended you keep all pets away from these areas as well.

All ice is to be considered unsafe! Although this was an extra cold winter, it does not take long for ice to become unstable, especially when water is moving underneath the ice surface, such as in our creeks and retention ponds.

Any Concerns, call 9-1-1. If anyone observes unsafe activities by any age group call 9-1-1 right away. We would much rather prevent a tragedy than the alternative.
