On Saturday, April 5, at 7:50 a.m., Grey County OPP received a report of a driver trapped inside a vehicle after it had left the roadway, rolled, and became partially submerged in a swamp on Grey Rd. 4 just west of Flesherton, in the Municipality of Grey Highlands.

OPP responded within minutes of receiving the call.  Upon arrival the officer noticed the vehicle upside down in the water. Provincial Constable Gab Kokas and a civilian bystander immediately entered the frigid water and observed the female driver in the overturned vehicle, who was still strapped into her seat by the seat belt, and running out of breathable air space.  As the vehicle continued to fill with water, the officer managed to open the door and, with the help of the civilian, was able to free the driver from the vehicle.

The victim was escorted to the roadway where she was turned over to the Grey County Emergency Services (EMS).  The Grey Highlands Fire Department assisted.

Catherine Miller, age 58, of Grey Highlands, was taken to the Markdale Hospital where she was examined for minor injuries and released.

Grey County OPP wish to thank all the individuals who assisted at the scene of this single motor vehicle collision.
