Christian Perspectives – God is in control

One of my favourite times of the week is getting up early on Saturday or Sunday morning, picking up my copy of the Toronto Star newspaper from the end of the driveway, and sitting down for breakfast while I read through the paper. I’m not sure what sections you might turn to first, but to catch up on what is going on in the world I like to begin by reading the front section. This is usually followed closely by the Sports section. I need to keep up on how the Toronto teams are doing in the standings. (as of this writing the Blue Jays are still in the hunt for first place).
Sometimes reading the Saturday paper can be a little overwhelming with negative news items. Take this past weekend for example. The first headline reads “Militants’ brutality draws U.S. back into Iraqi conflict”. As we read more of this article we get additional information that is somewhat difficult to read. There are reports that Islamic State militants have brutally murdered hundreds of people. A nurse at a hospital was told she couldn’t work there anymore because she was a Christian. Like thousands of other Christians, she has been made a refugee by the jihadists’ intensifying war against religious and ethnic minorities. The rest of her story is equally unbelievable. Those of us on this side of the world have a hard time imagining what it must be like to be going through what they are going through over there.
Another article headline says “Bourque admits to killing 3 Mounties”. This is another item that is equally hard to believe. We just can’t understand why anyone would decide to murder three RCMP officers for no apparent reason.
I could go on with many other articles that show a very dark side of humanity. But through it all we must remember that no matter what -God is in control.
There is a song written and sung by Twila Paris with some great lyrics that I would like to share here. It is entitled “God Is In Control”

Aren’t we thankful that no matter what is going on in the world we can find comfort in the fact that God is in Control.
