This is a very busy week here with many of our programs starting up again and we are very excited to look at some innovative aspects of our previously popular programs.
Children’s Programs:
Wednesday, September 10 we have our after school LEGO Club from 3:30 TO 4:30 p.m. for kids ages 8 and up. We will have a light, healthy snack to boost mid-day energy and stimulate all the creativity in our youngsters. Both Jade and Grace will be here to introduce the themes and the activities. One of our key motivators in having the Lego club is to integrate literacy skills and communication skills.
Thursday, September 11, we will have our popular Rainbow Loom gathering at 6 p.m. This is so much fun, I often join in for a bit as well. We are hoping to start some new programs and crafts in the coming weeks so do check out our Facebook page.
Also, Paws to Read – Thursday, Sept.11 @ 4:00, We have several regulars signed up to read to Mac. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to practice reading in a friendly and comfortable environment. The children who have tried it love Mac and it gives them extra opportunities to read out loud.
And again, our very favourite Story Time with Mrs. Jeanne, Friday, September 12 at 10:30 a.m. There will be songs, stories and crafts with all new themes for the coming year. This week`s theme will be the ever popular Nursery Rhymes.
Shelburne District Fair: This weekend- Look for our Poster at the Fair and help yourself to a brochure about all the fun happenings at the library.

Make a placeholder in your calendar for Barry Gough who is coming on Sunday, September 21 with his new book, The Elusive Mr. Pond, The soldier, fur trader, and explorer who opened the Northwest. We would appreciate you letting us know that you are coming by calling the library. 519-925-2168
Hugh Brewster will be here either late October or early Novembers. I know many of you have enjoyed Hugh before so stay tuned to announcements about the actual date.
New Books
I have just finished reading Louise Penny’s new book, The Long Way Home. Inspector Gamache is now retired in the village of Three Pines. Despite having left the force, mystery and murder seem to have a way of finding him anywhere. A search for the artist Peter Morrow, leads Gamache, Beauvoir, Clara and Myrna on a long trek through dark and sinister aspects of the art world. The ending is unexpected and complex in the unraveling.
Phantom instinct by Meg Gardiner is another book that I read this week. This is a thriller with lots of unexpected happenings. There were some rather gruesome aspects and tension around fighting it out with the really violent criminals. Not everyone’s choice for a relaxing read.
