Twenty-four participants took part in the Terry Fox Run held on Sunday, September 14th in Shelburne and with generous donations which came pouring in. Shelburne’s Terry Fox volunteer organizer, Joan Wallace can proudly announce taking in approximately over $2000 towards putting an end to cancer.
Though young Canadian, Terry Fox lost his battle to Cancer forcing him to abandon his goal of running across Canada, Terry Fox fundraising organizations have definitely carried on Fox’s dream as they continue to raise funds towards terminating this often consuming disease.
Joan Wallace, Terry Fox Run Volunteer Organizer commented, “I would like to thank all who made donations, the ‘Terry Foxers’ who came out to participate, and the Terry Fox volunteers who assist to make it all happen. Thank-you to Isabel and Jeff Holmes, who mark out the routes, student volunteers, Bailey Vander Veen and Erika Alguire, who helped with registration, poster hanging and sign placing around town, RBC’er and Mom, Tina Vander Veen for assisting our students, Shelburne and District Fire Department for the use of their property and firefighters, Ian Wallace and Dave Hardick for the use of the tent and setting up,” adding, “We have a terrific town in which we live, and it’s the people who live here, make it what it is. A caring and vibrant place we call home. Thank you to everyone, you have made a difference in many lives. I thank you, and the Terry Fox Foundation, thanks everyone for your continued support.”
A cancer survivor herself, a very grateful Wallace seems to have a surplus of energy and an even greater amount of determination and dedication in the fight to end cancer.
Congratulations on the success of the Terry Fox Run on behalf of the Shelburne Free Press.
