TransAlta’s Melancthon Wind Facility donates 35 turkeys to food bank

TransAlta’s Melancthon Wind Facility donated 35 turkeys to Shelburne’s Shepherd’s Cupboard Food Bank earlier this week to help families in need for the Thanksgiving holiday
“For the past few years, we have hosted several food drives at our workplace and have donated the turkeys as well; we feel it’s important to give back to the community where we do business,” said Lorena Wilson, Office Administrator at TransAlta’s Melancthon Wind Facility (formerly known as Canadian Hydro Developers). “In addition to that, each October the TransAlta Melancthon site hosts a United Way campaign where we raised almost $5,000 last year for the Guelph, Wellington, Dufferin United Way.”
Across the country, TransAlta raised over 1.5 million dollars last year for local United Way agencies generously matching every dollar raised by employees, so it’s a very worthwhile cause since all the funds raised stay here to help local charities.
The United Way helps financially support many of our local services and agencies and provided $100,000 to Dufferin charities in 2014.
On October 9th local TransAlta employees will also take part in a “Day of Caring” event where all employees attend the homes of families that have been touched by Alzheimer’s disease.
“We give them a hand with their yard work and help them get prepared for winter. It’s a win – win for all involved; the seniors get some much needed help and we get a great feeling of accomplishment by lending a helping hand. We are hopeful that more local companies will follow our lead and host their own United Way campaign to help build a stronger community,” said Lorena.
