Kart racer places well in final standings

Shelburne Kart racer Matt DeAbreu wrapped up the 2014 racing season with a fourth place finish at the Innisfil Kart Club in Gilford, Ontario.
Matt was running in second place midway through the season but dropped down in the standings after being disqualified in one race on a minor technicality.
The infraction was so minor that most clubs wouldn’t have considered it worth reporting, however like all sporting events, infractions are at the discretion of officials on site.
Despite the setback, Matt still had a stellar season on the track.
“We had a couple of strong finishes,” he said. “It came down to the wire. We finished six point behind third place.”
With the end of this season Matt will move up to a senior division next year and is now considering his options when it comes to choosing a new class of racing.
“It tried a two-stroke Rotax kart. It’s a lot faster,” He explained. “Right now I’m not sure what I’m going to do but I’m leaning toward running a four-stroke Briggs and Stratton. The Briggs and Stratton can run at different levels. I’m applying for a nationals license so I can run a the national and regional levels and in the U.S.”
The Kart season had 12 races and each driver can drop the two worst performances for the final points tally at the end of the racing season. Unfortunately, races where drivers were disqualified can’t be knocked out of the total.
Matt’s father Dwayne is the chief mechanic and pit crew and is knowledgeable in Karting with the smarts to fine tune the machine for the best performance on the track.
The Kart reaches speeds of up to 94 kph and will complete a lap on the Innisfil circuit in about 38 seconds.
Matt said he feels very positive about his performance on the rack this year, adding “I got a lot of experience for the season.”
The DeAbreau team will be looking for sponsors for next season who want to be a part of the exciting Kart racing world.
