Telephone fraud

On September 17th, officers from the Nottawasaga OPP detachment took report of a concerning telephone call that an elderly female had received.
The phone call was from an unknown person pretending to be the woman’s son, and claiming that he was in jail requiring bail money. After she made confirmation that her son was not in jail, and didn’t make the phone call police were contacted regarding the scam.
There have been three other incidents reported to police where individuals were receiving similar phone calls soliciting for money.
Knowledge is power. Regardless of age, we can take many basic steps to better protect ourselves from becoming victims of fraud such as never giving out personal information over the phone or over the Internet.
