All are welcome to hit the streets this Saturday, as businesses across Shelburne’s downtown are once again hosting the annual Treats in the Streets family event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 25.
Organized out of Jack Downing Park by the Shelburne BIA, local businesses will open their doors to kids and their families for a safe and eventful trick-or-treating experience across town. Participants can expect to receive a trick-or-treat bag at the park, where 200 bags are waiting for the first 200 kids to arrive.
Melissa Hooper, a Shelburne BIA representative and owner of H&H Tax Management, said the event, which has been running since before COVID, is all about getting kids outside in a fun and secure environment.
“It’s just something we like to do for the community, it’s free and it’s fun,” she said. “Our goal is to put together something for families to do together. Keeping it around the downtown core makes it easy, safe and affordable for families that otherwise might not be able to do much on Halloween.”
Alongside the trick-or-treating component, there will also be a prize draw at the park.
Hooper said that there are a number of participating businesses, and each of them has prepared signs to easily identify which storefronts downtown are participating.
“We have about 15 businesses participating this year,” she said. “All the businesses will have signs visible so people know who’s involved. Most will also have someone waiting right at the door for the kids.”
The event will remain centered around that downtown area, and participants are encouraged to visit and support the local cafes for refreshments and food.
This event will also run concurrently with the mini-boo version of Haunt in the Park, being held at KTH Manufacturing this year, instead of Fiddle Park, due to ongoing construction. A complimentary bus will be available to transport guests between the two events.
This year’s Treats in the Streets event promises to deliver another safe and enjoyable trick-or-treating experience for families, while providing connections to more Halloween fun around town.
