It wasn’t the kind of weather you really want when you’re on the diamond, but the Mansfield Cubs won their first game of the season in Orangeville on Monday (May 11) while a cold win blew across the field and a light drizzle made playing conditions less than ideal.
The Cubs were up against the Orangeville Giants in their third game of the 2015 season.
After a first couple of innings that saw some good hits but no scoring from either team, the game opened up in the later innings.
Tyler Linger was on the mound for the Cubs and stuck in out for the entire game.
The Cubs claimed their first win of the season in this game leaving the field with a 5–3 win.
The season got underway for the Cubs with their first game on May 3, against the Barrie Angels with an afternoon game in Barrie.
The squad lost by two runs in the season opener when Barrie left with a 3–1 win.
Next up, the Cubs travelled to New Lowell on May 10, to take on the Knights.
The final was 10–1 in that game leaving the Cubs looking for their first win of the season, which came Monday night.
The North Dufferin Baseball League has a full line-up this season with 14 teams in the Senior Division.
The Junior Division has six teams entered for the season.
The Cubs had two road games this coming weekend staring out with a Friday night game in Lisle against the Astros.
On Sunday, May 24, they will be in Clearview to take on the Orioles.
They return to the home diamond in Mansfield on Wednesday, May 27, to host the Orangeville Giants.
The first pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
