May 28, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Sanjay Lekhi, pharmacist and owner of Shelburne Town Pharmacy, held a fundraiser for SickKids Hospital Foundation on Saturday, May 23rd at his store in the Giant Tiger/Foodland plaza.
Many activities took place at the event, including a barbecue lunch and demonstrations by students of Classical Martial Arts Centre (CMAC), owned by Nick and Lisa Lagrasta.
ACCE Photography, owned by Althea Casamento, also took part in this event, taking professionally staged photos, with the theme ‘Picnic in the Park’ – with all proceeds donated to the SickKids Foundation.
The Shelburne & Area Feral Cat Rescue, owned by Sharon Morden, was also on hand. Feral Cat Rescue volunteers are a group of concerned citizens that are helping to control and manage the feral cat population in Shelburne.
Volunteer firefighters from the Shelburne & District Fire Department were also there –handing out information sheets, and free gifts for the kids.
This fist ever Town Pharmacy fundraiser for SickKids raised $1400 – exceeding Sanjay’s goal of raising $1000.
“I would like to thank the volunteers. Without their help I could not have done this,” Sanjay told the Free Press after the fundraiser. “I would also like to thank the generous supporters who started donating money three weeks ago for SickKids at the pharmacy and those people who bought lunches and donated the day of the event.”
Sanjay would like to offer special thanks to:
Tracy Haworth for arranging the popcorn, cotton candy, tiger mascot and advertising the event online; Chris White – the bear mascot; Mike and Michelle Ashton for barbecuing; Ellie Harris for taking food orders; Michelle Dodds; Rossanne Steeves; Jessica Boswell for the kids’ games; Kimberely Johnstone; Allison Kirin; Dana Hogenhout; and Brenda Haines.
As well as these significant contributors:
Sharon Morden of Feral Cat Rescue; Nic Lagrasta for the karate demonstration; Tom Reid, chief Paramedic services and his crew; Shelburne Fire Department (Mike Morell and crew); MP David Tilson; MPP Sylvia Jones; and Terry (Elvis).
“I encourage more and more people to come forward and participate in fundraising,” said Sanjay, who plans to host this event annually, on the weekend after the long weekend in May (May 24).
A cheque presentation will be held this Friday, May 29th, and the proceeds from last weekend’s event will be turned over to the SickKids Hospital Foundation.
“I have asked all of the volunteers to join me this Friday,” said Sanjay. “This is everyone’s success story.”
