Shelburne Library News: Lego Club

May 20, 2016   ·   0 Comments

By Rose Dotten

For the last two LEGO meetings, our kids have enjoyed using the new Little Bits set. This STEM based learning set helped our members build creations with moving and changing parts through basic circuits.

The first week we used the Little Bits to put beacon lights on our spaceships, and last week we used wind power (via a fan) for a variety of wind projects.

Members were encouraged to look at some resources on wind power prior to starting their creations.

As pictured here, this group used a fan to give a realistic effect to their tornado! Who would have thought to harness the power of a tornado for electricity? Very cool.

We will be putting on more Little Bits programs throughout the summer to extend and enhance literacy and love of learning in our young members – even when school is out!

Keep an eye on our website and Facebook pages (/shelburnelibrary) to stay up-to-date.

Children’s Programs:

The Super Readers Club is finished for now. We are now gearing up for the TD Summer Reading Program that starts on July 9. Keep watching the web site or check at the Library for more details and registration sheets.

Paws to Read with Mac the poodle, has a couple of spaces available if you would like to participate by reading to Mac, call us. He loves to hear stories.

Check the web site or call 519-925-2168 for more information about any of these programs.

Teen Scene

The Teens spent last Thursday night doing some more creative writing. Once again they produced completely different, hilarious accounts of a not-so-amiable coffee date.

By request, we are going to do a group writing activity on Thursday, May 19! We will undoubtedly have a few laughs and a couple of ingenious ideas! Stop by between 6 and 7 p.m. to join in! Lastly, this is another reminder about the Teen survey in the YA section of the library; fill it out to tell us what you want to do at the library this summer and put your name on it to be entered into a draw!
