Junior C Vets bitten by Bulldogs

The Shelburne Junior C Vets suffered their fifth loss of the season Friday night (June 13) when they gave up a 9-4 game to the Halton Hills Bulldogs.

At the end of the first period, the visitors were leading 5-1. The only Shelburne first period goal came from Connor Early at 2:41 into the period.

The Vets matched the Bulldogs with two goals each in the second frame on goals from Jake Newton and a powerplay effort from Todd Greer to make it a 7–3 game going into the final frame, but he Vets couldn’t close the gap in the third and had to settle for the loss.

The only Shelburne goal in the third came from Kyler Ethier late in the game. Vets coach Mark Early, said the loss was a disappointment after the Shelburne squad fell flat during their tenth game of the season.

“I’m trying to find a word – atrocious. That was our worst game yet,” Early said. “We didn’t get anything inside on that goalie. Two of our goals were from our defence. Our offence, on five on five, only got one goal all game. We just couldn’t penetrate their defence. The one’s we got were all from the outside. They’ve got a good goalie. We weren’t going to beat him from the outside.”

The first period set the tone for the game when Halton scored twice before the game was :21 seconds old, then scored a third at t 3:29 mark. “That first period we came out flat,” Early said. “They were up 6-1 right at the start of the second period.”

The Bulldogs notched number six at just :12 seconds into the second frame. “We tied the game from that point on, but still…” Earl didn’t finish his comment, obviously disappointed at the first period result.

The Vets will return to the Centre Dufferin Recreation Complex this Friday, June 20, to host Mimico. Game time is 8:30 p.m.
