Junior players end season in OHA Jr. ‘C’ playoffs

The season is over for two Shelburne Junior C hockey players after winning the Georgian Mid Ontario Junior C Hockey League Championship then going on to the semi-final round of the provincial Schmalz Cup championships.
Alliston Hornets defenceman, Matt Taylor, and forward Jamie Bennett, were major contributors to the success of this year’s Junior C team.
The Hornets ended the regular season in first place with a 32-8 record and 66 points.
They captured the GMOHL championship with a four game sweep over the Schomberg Cougars in the final round.
Entering the provincial playoffs, the squad made an astounding comeback in the quarter-finals after losing the first three games to the Walkerton Hawks, then returning to take four straight to win the series.
The team bowed out of the Schmalz Cup playoffs with a 4–0 loss to the Port Hope Panthers in the semi-final round.
In his first season with the Hornets, Taylor played 36 regular season games as a defenceman and ended the season with 27 points. He scored 12 goals and recorded 15 assists.
During the playoffs, Taylor played in 24 games adding another 15 points to his total with six goals and nine assists, making him the top points earning defenceman on the team this year.
Completing his second season on the Hornets, Bennett bested his rookie season by 20 points.
In 2013 / 14, he notched 23 points over 40 regular season games.
This year he played 34 regular season games and scored 20 goals and recorded 23 assists for 43 points.
Going into the playoffs Bennett took part in 23 games notching five more goals and 15 assists for another 20 points for the year.
Over all, Bennett was fourth in the points totals for the Alliston club this season.
The provincial Schmalz Cup Junior C championship is currently in the final round with the Essex 73’s facing the Port Hope Panthers for the championship title.
