Did I see a pink horse?

September 9, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Yes I did. In fact I saw many horses and their riders dressed in pink for the 6th Annual Trail Ride for Breast Cancer.
Dufferin County Forest never looked so good as 123 riders with their horses taking to the trails to raise money for breast cancer. And we raised a whopping $20,000 this year for the cause.
Smiling faces and lots of chatter and a few sore “bottoms upon completion” as the riders led their horses of all sizes, shapes, breeds, and colors onto the trail. A beautiful magnificent sight.
The 7km trail took one and a half hours for the faster ‘let’s do it’ riders, who left early to beat the heat. Other riders took up to three hours, give or take, keeping the pace slow and easy.
The ride this year took place on Saturday August, 22nd. A beautiful sunny day, no bugs, no humidity. I sat myself in various places in the nice cool woods along the trail awaiting their arrival back. Listening to birds and chipmunks going about their day. Enjoying the peace and quiet. Then they started arriving. Riders still smiling, horses excited about getting back to a nice cool rub down, a drink and a nice treat or two for their efforts. Team work and fun is what this ride is all about.
The founder of this ride, Debra Moore, who lost her mother of breast cancer, told me, “This ride is all about the riders and their horses having fun. No stress, no hurry, just having fun.” And that was obvious.
There were a few prizes to be won as well. ‘Best Dressed Horse’ went to Sparkles the horse, ‘Best Dressed Riders’, to Chloe and her mom Kim B. Highest Pledges Raised went to 1st: Bandits for Boobies $4,150; 2nd: Chloe B with $1,100; and 3rd: Lori V with $430. Way to go guys!
Along with the pledges and money raised there were so many sponsors, including: The Horse Limo, Greenhawk, Richvale Saddlery, Davis Feed & Farm Supplies, Edward Jones Financial Advisor, Galla Designs, Absolute Equestrian Supplies,Watermaker, Extrudex Aluminum, Genesis Interior Design & Home Décor, Pharm – Vet, Head of the Heard, Tim Hortons, Outback Survival Gear, Equine Health for the life of Horses, Headsup Clothing, Brookston Equine Assisted Learning, Tack-two Large Animal Rescue, Nature Works Photography, “The Best” Bandages, Michelle Hogan Equine & fine Art, Schleese Saddlery Service, Caravaggio IDA Drugs, Acklands Grainger, Ionson’s Saddlery, Foodland Shelburne, Fisks’s hoof skin & wound care products, Kimberly Clark, Omega Alpha, Cavalier, Polo Management Services, No Frills Shelburne, Purina, Ontario Racing Commission, Spin Marketing, Centre Wellington Equine Trade Show, Safe-Tech Training, Martin,Diarosso Farm,Sinopoli Track & Feed Shoppe, Phoenix performance products, Bit of Bling Equestrian Wear, Horse Country Campground, Sawyers Feed Mill Shelburne, Gift Horse Gallery Canada, ASI Aviation Solutions Inc, Bio Circle,Wilton Sanitation, MGA International Logistics, Well Horse All Natural, Parelli Education Institute, Cedarpeaks Enterprises, MB Mad Barn crazy good nutrition, JoAnne Judd, The Saddlery Shack, Costa Classics Collection, Hepburn Sales, Sentinel Pole & Traffic Equipment Limited, Coopers, Devon Meadows Horse Boarding, ABC Animal Bedding Co, Rustic Meadows, PMI Peel Mutual Insurance Co, A & B Courier, S.u.d.s, Aircrafters Inc.
