Silent Auction & Book Sale
It is hard to describe the excitement, hustle and bustle in the library these days…This Saturday, November 28, is the big day for our Silent Auction – 10 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Bidding starts now. We have so many beautiful items all of which have been generously donated by our community. I can’t even begin to describe them; you will need to come and see for yourself. Things are on display in our showcase in the downstairs foyer and upstairs – the entire library is full. We also have about 25 of our beautiful gift book baskets which make wonderful gifts for your friends or for yourself.
We also have a huge book sale again with our usual $2 for a bag. We have some special books that are individually priced and will be displayed upstairs.
Children’s Programs
Pandora’s Sox: Saturday, December 12, at 11 a.m. at the library
In keeping with the festive theme, we will be hosting Pandora’s Sox, a creative puppet show for the children in the community. You will need a ticket to attend but tickets are free with a donation of food for the Food Bank and Christmas hampers. Please get your tickets now and come and enjoy this event.
Starting in January, we will be offering new Children’s programs…Lego for little ones, Forest of Reading Book Club, Money Management Strategies for children and teens, an additional Story time for the youngsters and our new Super Readers Club. Keep watching our website and Facebook page for the details.
Teen Scene
Our second-to-last book club meeting of the year will take place Thursday, November 26th from 6–7 p.m., where we will discuss this month’s selection Incarceron, as well as our favourite literary settings. Looking further ahead, December promises two exciting nights of crafting; one of which will be a “gingerbread” house decorating contest, officiated by members of the community on December 10th! Sign up at your library. In other exciting news, for those of you who enjoy winning prizes, we are hosting another reading challenge during the month of December! For each book read from authors whose last name starts with letters D-I (i.e. de la Cruz, Esch, Green, etc.), You will be given one ballot to enter into a draw for a YA book basket! Draw will take place January 7th.
New Program
Sunday Afternoon Events: Sign-up today at your Library
Sunday, December 20: 1–4 p.m.: Holiday table or mantel centerpiece.
Just in time for your Christmas dinner, you will learn how to create a beautiful table centerpiece. All the flowers, greens and other materials will be supplied. The cost of this workshop is $40. The great thing about these workshops is that you will learn skills so you can create beautiful flower arrangements for any occasion.
New Books
Many of our new books will be presented at Rose’s Book Club this Thursday at 2 p.m. Come out and join the group as we discuss books we have read in the past month and check out some of the new titles. I will review some of the books I recently read and pass on some favourites.
You will notice that we have fewer non-fiction books in the New Books but as of the end of the month, more non-fiction will be coming in. As well, we have just ordered the next Series in some of our regular DVD series so watch for them…
