When Rose De Marco opens the doors of her café each morning, there’s one emotion that she hopes every customer feels when they walk in – love.

Families, friends, and customers passed through De Marco’s Caffe, located at 115 Owen Sound Street in Shelburne, on Saturday (July 27) to celebrate the anniversary of the local café’s opening.

“I have this abundance of love for people and I know that I came here for a reason and a purpose,” De Marco told the Free Press. “I’m so passionate about what I’m doing and it’s been a pleasure to serve each and every person in the community who has come in.”

The establishment of DeMarco’s Caffe began in 2009 with the idea of creating a cozy, small space to serve unique blends of coffee and desserts. Over the next decade, De Marco would come up with different ideas of what her café would include, but it wasn’t until December of 2018 that she would sit down to begin researching and writing down all her plans.

De Marco first launched her business online in 2019 and introduced her own specialty blend known as DeMarco’s Jamaican/Italian Peppermint Expresso. During that time, she worked on plans for the brick-and-mortar location in Shelburne, which would open almost three years later.

De Marco’s Caffe officially opened in Shelburne on July 28, 2022.

Jocelyn De Leon, a new resident of Shelburne, has become a regular customer at De Marco’s Caffe and stopped in for the anniversary celebration along with her family.

“I will take any excuse to come here. I love supporting her business,” said De Leon. “The food alone is worth it for me, but Rose really makes it special and has that connection with people that makes you feel welcomed.”

De Marco’s Caffe sells a number of drink and dessert items, with an ever-developing and growing list. The drink menu includes hot drinks such as coffee, tea and hot chocolate as well as cold beverages like smoothies and iced refreshers.

What the café is most known for is its selection of desserts, ranging from a variety of cheesecakes, cakes, cannoli, cookies, and more.

“When the desserts are being made, I tell them to make them with love because I am going to be selling them with love,” said De Marco.

De Marco’s Caffee is located at 115 Owen Sound Street in Shelburne and is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
