Copper appears to be a hot commodity in the County of Dufferin.
Dufferin Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers are investigating two incidents of theft where copper wire was stolen.
Officers responded to a Break and Enter at a property located on County Road 7 in Mono on Dec. 26, 2024, just before 8:30 a.m. Damage was caused by unknown suspect(s) to attain copper wire from within the walls of the home on the property.
Just four days later, on Dec. 30, shortly before 11 a.m., Dufferin OPP responded to a theft of local cable lines near Highway 89, just west of Shelburne.
The technician who responded to fix the cable lines advised the OPP of an increase in these types of theft across the province.
“Your Dufferin OPP are asking for the public’s assistance in stopping these types of thefts that can have a negative impact on your home and its services,” said Dufferin OPP in a press release. “Please be aware of any suspicious vehicles parked along the sides of roadway late at night near cable lines in remote areas.”
