Shelburne resident opens ‘Magnolia Day Spa’ opens in Tottenham

Nothing feels better than a massage, or a facial. Getting your nails done and a pedicure too – except, of course, when you’re getting all that pampering at the same time!
Shelburne resident Rebecca Servinis, a professional esthetician, has opened her first business in Tottenham. Magnolia Day Spa accepted its first clients on April 14th, and business has been growing steadily since then.
Servinis chose Tottenham for her business location because she says, “It was a good business decision.”
Magnolia Day Spa offers: facials, collagen masks, manicures, shellac manicures, pedicures, waxing, make-up application, eyebrow tinting, ear candling, aromatherapy, body scrubs, massage, hot stone massage and much more.
Services are available on an individual basis, or in a package. Servinis also offers full day spa treatments – complete with lunch – and gift certificates to spread the spa experience to those we love.
Having been in the industry for 13 years, Servinis says that the best way to attract repeat customers is to use “really good products”.
“The service my clients receive is second to none,” she said, “but the products really count too. You can tell when someone is using a quality product, because it translates in the results you’ll receive.”
OPI nail lacquer is used in all her mani’s and pedi’s, and Servinis uses ‘Glamour on the Go’ cosmetics – which are hypoallergenic and professional quality – created by fellow Shelburne resident, Jennifer Beaudet.
But it’s Servinis’ reputation for having a thorough approach and “strong, guided hands” that keeps her customers coming back for more.
“Many of my services are an hour, it takes that long to do a good job,” she said.
Servinis shares a business location with Mary Gunst, owner of The Art of Shears hair salon, whom she met in Caledon East. The pair previously worked at neighbouring businesses and were fast friends.
“Rebecca has always been on my ‘dream team’ list,” Gunst told the Free Press. “When I decided to renovate my business to include space for a spa, I thought of her right away. Luckily, she accepted my offer to open here, and now we’re a one stop beauty bar.”
Together, the pair are drawing in new clients, and keeping their life-long devotees, through word of mouth.
The Free Press asked Servinis how she came up with the name, ‘Magnolia Day Spa’:
“I went to see Alliston psychic medium, Chris Stillar, a long time ago. This was before I thought I’d ever open my own business. I was hoping to hear from my mom’s best friend, Christa, who came through with force! But Chris spoke a lot about my future. He told me that I’d own my own business one day, and that it would be in this area,” she said, swinging her arms wide to indicate he meant, New Tecumseth. “Chris also said that my spa would be called ‘Magnolia’. At the time, I was still in the ‘travelling and having fun’ stage of my life, and I didn’t put much stock into what he was saying. About a year ago, when Mary and I started talking about me opening here, I listened to the CD Chris made for me so long ago. I was blown-away. Magnolia it was, and I’m very happy with my (Chris’) name choice.”
Magnolia, a type of flower, is known for meaning “joyful new beginnings”, also “peace, love and nature”. All things Servinis hopes her business will be.
By the way, Chris Stillar also told Ms Servinis that she would have two children – a dream not yet realized by the young entrepreneur. I guess we’ll have to stay tuned to what happens next for this lucky, and likable, new business owner.
