Dad of the year!

May 21, 2015   ·   0 Comments

This past weekend Dance Fuel participated in Star Beat Dance Competition that was held in Hamilton.
The Junior and Senior dance team of 19 girls once again walked away with many Gold and Diamond awards in the categories of Hip Hop, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary dance. Dance Fuel had 20 entries in total that competed in group, duet/trio and small and large group categories. As well this weekend two of their novice dance duets placed 2nd and 3rd overall. A great accomplishment as novice dancers are those that have never competed prior to this year. The 3rd overall team of twins Victoria and Alexandria Sodoma did a hip hop routine choreographed to Get Loose in the 12 Years Category. While the 2nd overall dancers Crystal Widbur and Keera Trovell-Jamieson competed in 9 Years to a hip hop routine choreographed to Run the World.
Every dance competition has judging which is called adjudication. At every competition the dancers have fun before the results are read out. At this particular competition they called some dancers up to show their Dad’s a dance move, who in turn had to perform that move.
From Dance Fuel, Crystal Widbur was chosen and she had her father Carey perform a cartwheel. Not only did Carey do a cartwheel, he did some before and after freestyle dancing in which he had the crowd roaring with laughter. He performed the pony, twerked, did a cartwheel then finished with a little hip hop floor work. When he nailed his routine, he proudly walked away showing the crowd that he did a performance worthy of a Platinum award proudly displaying one finger in show of the fact that he totally rocked the stage!
As far as this reporter is concerned, this performance was defiantly worthy of Dad of the Year Award. As someone who has danced and competed for Joanne Chapman’s School of Dance and Coffey’s Dancin’ Place, and who now teaches for Dance Fuel, for lets say the last 30+ years (so as not to give away my true age, which is 29), never have I ever seen and improve performance by a parent, especially a father, so worthy of such an award! Carey you are now officially my new hero and I hereby award you with Dad of the Year Award for such an unforgettable performance.
