The Mansfield Cubs had a hot week after winning both scheduled games and improving their record to 3–2.
The squad started off the season with a pair of losses but have rebounded winning three in a row.
The week got underway at the Cubs’ home diamond in Mansfield with a Wednesday (May 20) night game against the Creemore Braves.
The Cubs shut down the Braves to leave the field with a 2–0 win for their second game on the plus side this season.
The second game of the week got underway in Lisle when the Cubs arrived to take on the Astros at Ross Houston park.
There was no scoring in the first four innings but there were lots of hits and lots of outfield action with both teams playing exceptional defensive games.
That included a nice snag off a hard drive to the mound when Cubs hurler Devon Caldwell made the quick catch and turn for the throw to first base.
The fifth inning saw a lot of action high into the air with both teams going out on fly balls deep out in the field.
The game was played out in the final innings with the Cubs taking a 3–2 win.
Still early in the season, the Cubs are right in the middle of the pack in the North Dufferin Baseball League standings.
The New Lowell Knights are leading followed by the Aurora Jays and the Clearview Orioles.
The Creemore Barons are in the number four spot followed by the Ivy Leafs and the Bolton Dodgers.
The Cubs hosted the Orangeville Giants on Wednesday (May 27) night in Mansfield with results too late for press time.
They will be back on their home diamond in Mansfield on Wednesday, June 3, to host the Ivy Leafs.
The first pitched is slated for 6:30 p.m.
