On Thursday July 2nd officers from the Shelburne Police Service were dispatched to a report of a stolen car. Officers spoke with the victim who indicated her 32-year-old daughter, Kimberley Johnstone, had taken her car and then abandoned it when it ran out of gas. Ms Johnston returned to her mother’s home, without the car, asking for gas money. When her mother refused she forcefully took her mother’s wallet and fled the area.
In the early morning hours of July 3rd Ms. Johnston was observed operating her mothers vehicle on Highway 10. She was subsequently stopped by police and arrested. In the car officers located the stolen wallet.
Kim Johnstone has been charged with the criminal offences of theft of a motor vehicle, theft under $5000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime as well as two provincial offences for driving while under suspension and failing to notify her change of address.
