Dancing Horse

Headwaters Artist of the Year, Ken Hall, unveiled a life-sized steel sculpture of a horse at the opening of Equiart 2015 on Saturday, July 11th. His Dancing Horse celebrates the joyful, magical energy of the horse in motion. Helping Ken to install the piece are (left to right): William Madden, Horst Wendland and Ken Hall. Not pictured was Steve McKee, who was also assisting for the installation. Equiart is a celebration of Equine Art being run by the Dufferin Arts Council and coinciding with the equestrian competitions of the Pan Am Games. Ken is an award-winning public installation artist – his installation Legacy, an anatomically correct killer whale skeleton carved from reclaimed cedar siding and decking, is currently touring Ontario and has reached over 1,000,000 visitors since its launch in June 2013. A pop-up gallery will house some of the best horse-themed artwork in the region from July 8–25th, at 17090 Highway 50 in Palgrave, while other artwork will be displayed on the walls of several local restaurants, including: Mrs. Mitchell’s, Forage, Rustik Bistro, Bluebird Cafe, The Globe, MonoCliffs Inn and Black Birch.
