September 9, 2015   ·   0 Comments

Along with thousands of entries and exhibits, the Shelburne & District Fall Fair is featuring some great activities and entertainment to provide a big weekend of fun September 18th through the 20th at the fairgrounds. The line-up includes “hot’ entertainer FireGuy Brant Matthews. FireGuy will appear for three shows on the Sunday of the fair, near the William Street entrance to the grounds at 10:30 a.m., noon, and 1:30 p.m.
Brant Matthews, who travels the world performing his stunts as FireGuy, is based out of Toronto. Matthews told the Free Press he “will be rolling into town with his new motorized one wheel board juggling fire. FireGuy also eats fire and makes an “ash” out of himself.” He invites everyone to “Come see his claim to Flame.” Sponsored by Roy’s Service Centre, FireGuy will perform three shows at the Antique & Classic Car Show September 20th.
The 2015 Fall Fair officially kicks off with opening ceremonies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, September 18th, immediately followed by the Fair Ambassador Competition at 8:15 p.m. The Ambassador Program offers young people the opportunity to represent the Shelburne Agricultural Society and Shelburne and surrounding areas at the fair and other events, including the CNE. It is an excellent learning opportunity with a variety of prizes offered by local businesses and individual sponsors.
Entertainment at the Ambassador Competition will be an intriguing presentation by spiritual medium Chris Stillar on the Assembly Hall stage. Stillar, who lives in Alliston with his wife and four children, purports to communicate with the dead. According to Stillar’s promotion, he “doesn’t believe his ability of spirit communication provides closure for his clients but for many, it reminds or teaches them that loved ones are still a vital part of our day to day lives and very much aware of what is going on with us long after they have crossed over.”
Saturday, September 19th the engines will start to rev up for the ever popular Demolition Derby at 5 p.m. Classes include: Full size, straight stock, 1980 or newer; 6 Cylinder, 1980 or newer; 4 cylinder, figure 8 racers; and the father and son team match.
There is more fun for auto lovers on Sunday with the Antique and Classic Auto Show.
Trophies will be awarded for the following: Peoples Choice; Best Red; Best Yellow or Gold; Best Green; Best Blue; Best Purple or Pink; Best Brown; Best White; Best Gray or Silver; and Best Black. All owners interested in entering their vehicles must be registered by 11 a.m. on Sunday, September 20th. Admission to the Antique and Classic Auto Show is free.
Kids can have fun at the pedal tractor pull, dog show, and bicycle draw on Saturday, and the “Agrication” Petting Zoo will be open all weekend for their enjoyment. Horse shows and competitions take place Saturday and Sunday as well as 4–H Competitions. For young thrill seekers, the midway will run all weekend as well as food booths and outdoor vendors who will be selling their wares and providing information on various services. It is a full schedule of fun and events for the whole community and a wonderful 148 year old tradition to celebrate the bounty our local harvest.
Come to the Shelburne Fall Fair September 18–20!
