Shelburne Library News: Holiday Hours

December 11, 2016   ·   0 Comments

By Rose Dotten

Closed December 24, 2016 – January 3, 2017 inclusive

Re-opening again, January 4, 2017

It is December and time to start planning for the holidays.

In other years, we have had the same schedule as the school holiday period, but this year we decided to open on January 4 instead of January 9.

We will see if there is a demand this year, or whether families will be planning other activities.

Christmas Floral Arrangement Workshop: Sunday, December 18 @ 1:30

We are hosting a floral arrangement workshop led by Shirley from Shirley’s Garden Supply. You will have a lovely arrangement ready for your Christmas table, mantle or gift giving. There are two styles to choose from this year. The cost is $50 and includes all materials.

Please call 519-925-2168 to sign up.

Children’s Programs

This Wednesday was our last session for “Paws to Read” Program for this year. This has been a very successful program for our children and we really want to thank Mac and his owner Darlene for all their patience and support. The program will start again on Wednesday, January 18, from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m. Two of our regular readers will be moving so there will be a couple of spaces. Please call as they fill up fast.

The LEGO club is very busy on Wednesdays after school from 3.30 – 4.30 p.m., and will finish for the year on Wednesday, December 15.

The month of December will feature Christmas related themes at Story Time on Friday mornings at 10.30 a.m. There are lots of songs, musical instruments, stories, crafts, fun learning sessions for both children and adults, so don’t miss it. The last Story Time for this year will be Friday December 16, and will start again on Friday, January 20.

For any or all our programs please call us at 519-925-2168.

Teen Scene:

Two exciting upcoming events – our 2nd Annual YA Gingerbread House Decorating Competition (December 8 from 6 – 7 p.m.) and the Fan-demonium! Party (December 15 from 6 – 8 p.m.).

We welcome all Teens to these events. Our theme for the Gingerbread House Decorating competition is Winter in Wonderland and submissions will be judged on overall appearance, creativity and originality, and complexity, by the public.

Houses will be on display in the library and the public will be able to cast their votes on the winning house until December 14.

The winner of this competition will receive their prize at the Fan-demonium! party after fandom inspired games, stories, and activities. So far, we have activities planned for the Supernatural, Harry Potter, Hunger Games, and Teen Wolf fandoms. It’s going to be a FAN-tastic time, you won’t want to miss it.
