Shelburne Tyke 1 start their season

Since last hockey season, we have had a World Cup of Soccer and another Stanley Cup Championship. However what we, or at least I, have really been waiting for is Shelburne Tyke hockey season to return. For Tyke 1, their game season started this past weekend with a game in Dundalk and a game at home.

The first two shifts were even and it looked as if it was going to be one of those close games. Dundalk struck first but….. the Shelburne team would have no more of that. There were daring defensive dives like the sliding poke check from Benjamin Wauchope. There were awesome anticipated assists from the likes of Erik Thalenhorst, Bode Laurin and Logan Leonardo. There were sensational, sprawling saves by Mason Osmond and great gratifying goals from Ayrton Pomeroy, Bode Laurin and Aiden Alonso. When the dust settled, it was Shelburne 7, Dundalk 2.

The enthusiasm from the first game of the season carried over into Sunday with Georgian Shores 1 visiting. Shelburne Tyke1 would stop at nothing to ebb the flow of Georgian Shore 1’s strong offensive style. There was a blocked shot from Marshall Bertolo, numerous mid-ice forced turn overs from Brooke Cunnington. Netminder Ayrton Pomeroy tried to dam the net to keep the puck out. Alas, in the end, Georgian Shores’ surge proved too strong. When the tide receded it was Shelburne 0, Georgian 5.
