CANDIDATE: STEVE ANDERSON

RUNNING FOR: DEPUTY MAYOR

I am a proud resident of Shelburne and the father of two beautiful children.

Professionally, I am senior litigation lawyer with the Toronto Transit Commission, where i have practiced for 15 years receiving a number of awards for my performance and service to the community.

Prior to coming to Shelburne, I have served on a number of executive boards, including my appointment by the provincial government to serve as a council member with the college of kinesiologists of Ontario. I was subsequently elected vice-president of the college and chair of the discipline committee. In addition, I was a board member with the City of Brampton task force, prologue to the performing arts and community care access centre.

Regarding my personal achievements, i was honoured to receive the Ontario House of Commons Award for my dedication and service to community and I was also naed, by the Toronto Star, as one of the top 50 Jamaicans in the GTA.

Since coming to Shelburne, I served on the Town’s transit committee to secure GO Service for Shelburne. Following my appointment to Council, I served on the CDRC committee, street festival committee and created the student political committee at the Centre Dufferin District High School to ensure the voices of our youths are heard at the Council table.

I am delighted to share my four year vision for Shelburne, which includes controlled growth, modernizing our infrastructure, investing in recreational initiatives, investing in health care initiatives, securing meaningful career opportunities for our residents, securing internal and external transit, and keeping our community safe.

To achieve my vision, my action plan includes looking at all available options to support our local first responders. On the issue of health care, I will continue to work with Headwaters Health Care Centre President & CEO Stacey Daub to increase medical services, equipment and programs to our town.

I am proud to announce that following my recent meeting with Mrs. Daub, she has agreed to hold a town hall in Shelburne to share her vision and hear from our residents. I will also recommend that Council form a special task force for the sole purpose of attracting new doctors to town.

When it comes to recreation for our youths and seniors, I am proud to announce my partnership with TD Bank to fund recreation initiatives starting in 2019.

Going door to door I have heard the need for affordable housing. If elected, I will be a strong and respected voice at the county level and I will continue my work with developers to ensure our residents are able to remain in this great town.

Our residents deserve and need good paying jobs and I will work closely with our economic development committee to secure new industries to town by leverging our growth and diversity.

Lastly, on transit, I will continue my partnership with MPP Sylvia Jones to secure GO transit service to Shelburne.
