What an exciting Saturday!! Our launch of the TD Summer Reading club was a huge success as more than 50 children and their parents attended. Another 50 have registered but were picking up their activity packages on Monday. Anyone walking along the street on Saturday morning could see the stream of parents and children heading in.

Jeanne Cruikshank introduced her student assistants Lindsay, and Colby and talked about the program. With the theme of GO!, students will participate in fun activities in a race across Canada. They each received a folder with activity sheets, stickers and their own little formula one race car for the “trip” . Today was the first day of activities related to the program and more than 30 children participated in the craft session, making hand puppets as well as leaf rubbings of native Ontario trees.  They are learning all about our country in a fun, interactive way.

Teen programs

Our teen program last Thursday, July 4 featured a fun-filled evening with a terrific craft session making funky and colourful picture frames. Again we had a very good response and are excited about our Glamour session this Thursday, July 11th,  when Makeup Artist Sharon Betton from Painting Faces Cosmetics will be visiting for a special Teens@Random event, providing professional makeup application, tips and strategies from an expert, and a photo-shoot showing off your new look!

AND don’t forget about our free Yoga for Teens which runs Monday mornings from 11 a.m. to noon starting on July 8th. Call 519-925-2168 to register for all our free programs.

We are still offering our computer sessions so please feel free to drop in for a one hour session geared to your specific needs and interests.

Our new summer reads include books by the very popular Donna Leon whose detective novels revolve around wonderful descriptions of Venice, and a new novel by Torontonian, Jack Batten… actually I am just starting to read that myself. There are also several new Gardening Books- check out straw bale gardening. It’s a little different and then there is a new Martha Stewart Craft book for kids just in time for the summer holidays.
