Shelburne Police Service responded to 92 calls for service between September 8th and September 15th.

Orangeville man charged with Stunt Driving: At 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday September 10th a Shelburne police officer observed a blue Volkswagen Jetta driving on Main Street in a residential area at an extremely high rate of speed. The vehicle was locked in on a radar speed measuring device moving at 101 kph. The driver, 22 year old Sylan Caressa of Orangeville was charged with stunt driving as well other highway traffic act charges. According the highway traffic act, any motor vehicle operating at 50 kph or more over the speed limit is considered stunt driving. In compliance with this legislation the Jetta was impounded for 7 days and the driver’s licence was suspended immediately for 7 days.

Stop results in driver charged with Impaired and passenger charged with Breaching Court Conditions: During the early evening hours on Tuesday September 10th officers patrolling the residential streets in the area of Dufferin Street and Andrew Street observed a red Chevrolet Cavalier driving in a manner that concerned them.  The vehicle was stopped by the officers and an investigation ensued.

The driver, 34 year old Ryan Leitch of Amaranth was arrested and charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Refuse to Provide Breath Sample – both under the Criminal Code of Canada. The driver was released on an appearance notice with a court date later this month.

The front passenger, 20 year old Connor Leitch was also arrested and charged with one count of breaching his court recognizance and one count of breaching his probation.  Connor Leitch is on a court recognizance with conditions not to have, purchase or consume alcohol as a result of a bail hearing that took place in summer in relation to assault and weapons charges. As a result of a February 2013 conviction for Mischief and Weapons Dangerous Connor Leitch was also on a probation order which required him to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Connor Leitch was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing.
