Saturday February 1st   – Exhibit Opening  “Letters of Love” –  DCMA Silo Gallery

Before texting, before emailing and before the telephone, there was the handwritten letter. It was not so long ago that feelings were conveyed through paper and ink. On February 1st, Letters of Love will open at the DCMA. This special exhibit displayed in the museum’s picturesque silo gallery, features letters, postcards and secret notes shared between husband and wife, mother and son, even an NHL hockey player and an adoring fan. These archival pieces offer a glimpse into the relationships that thrived, regardless of distance. Exhibit continues until March 10th.

• Wednesday February 12th – 1 p.m.  Official Quilts of Dufferin County; Women’s Art, Women’s Stories Launch / Old Time Quilting Bee

Join us as we launch our collaborative book titled, Quilts of Dufferin County; Women’s Art, Women’s Stories. Each quilt in the collection of the Dufferin County Museum and Archives has its own story to tell.  We have learned that quilts are documents of social history, among other things, they are a reflection of the economic times in which they were created.  Quilts followed fashions, and were the victims of fads. The best are both artful and skilful.  They are a testament to the quilters, the quilters’ families and the communities which produced them. Take the opportunity to visit the museum not only to admire these works of art, but also to ponder what each one tells us about our community’s past. The DCMA also presents a real old fashioned Quilting “Bee”. The Ladies of the quilting community will come together to tell their stories and work on their heartfelt craft.  Everyone is welcome, even if you aren’t a quilter. Special reading by Shelagh Roberts, author of The Quilts of Dufferin County; Women’s Art, Women’s Stories. The DCMA Quilt Collection will be on display and tea and sandwiches are available.

Admission is free but donation is appreciated.
