Brrrr… I don’t need to say much about this extreme cold weather because everyone who comes in mentions how cold it is. All the more reason, I say to come in, pick out some great reads and keep cozy reading a good book!

This week, I don’t have a list of new books because we are just in the process of cataloguing several boxes now have about 500 books on order as well as Talking books for our commuters, sewers, quilters and who else uses these on a regular basis? Let us know.

The Emperor Series by Conn Iggulden is our newest and hottest series in the Talking books and has a great following. We are just waiting for Book 5, the newest release. Also Season 4 of Downton Abbey is on order and should be here any day. I know many of you are waiting for this continuation. So do check new books on our web site. Shortly, we will be offering some new Technologies here at the library so stay tuned for that announcement.

Pizza & Pages, Our Teens Book Club: The members will meet this week and discuss their favourite books they have read in 2013.

This club provides lots of discussion and interaction. We even have one member who engages in the discussion every month through Skype on her computer and ours. Now that is fun.

Children’s Programs: This Friday, our Story Time will focus on the Olympic Games. There will be lots of activities, “medals” and other treats for our budding Olympians. Be sure to come and enjoy this special time at 10:30 a.m., this Friday, January 24.

Lego Club… finally!!: WE are excited; we have almost 30 children signed up for our Lego Club meeting on Wednesdays at 3:30 p.m. We have themed activities planned because we want this project to have Literacy activities embedded in such a way that children will learn while having fun. There are so many ways of embedding numeracy, tactile, visual and other literacy aspects into play and we hope to do that here. We have some student volunteers working on their 40 hour community service module, and Grace Haskell who has just finished her education degree helping me to coordinate the program and creating all the weekly fun activities.

Family Literacy Day: Monday, January 27th – free hot chocolate!

Family Literacy Day is January 27th and we have so many ways of celebrating! We just received out Forest of Reading Books, Red Maple, and Silver Birch etc. This is a program that involves children across Ontario reading their favorite authors and voting on the most popular ones.

Come in and select some new books to read and enjoy a free cup of Hot Chocolate.

Keep that winter cold away with a warm and cozy book and a warm drink!
