Fire in Shelburne

March 12, 2014   ·   0 Comments

A fire of undisclosed origin broke out at about 3:20 a.m. Thursday forcing the evacuation of about a dozen occupants of Melancthon Manor residents in Shelburne – although police said the fire was confined to only one of the building’s nine units.

Other sources said the Ontario Fire Marshall ordered the evacuation because of alleged Code violations. Fire Department sources hadn’t returned calls to confirm details by press time.

The evacuees were given emergency shelter by the county’s Emergency services. Director Steve Murphy couldn’t be reached for details by press time.

The building was insured but damage estimates had yet to be released. It was understood that insurance adjusters had already been in attendance.
