A Caring and Coping Workshop for families and professionals was held as the Mel Lloyd Centre Monday, May 12th hosted by The Shelburne and Area Chaplaincy Network.
Becky McCreath, Education Coordinator for the Dufferin County Alzheimer Society was one of the many speakers providing information on ‘caregiver fatigue’ light heartedly noting that she discovered she was doing too much when she entered her kitchen one day only to discover the dishwasher overflowing with a tremendous amounts of bubbles, realizing, she had accidentally placed dish soap detergent into the dishwasher instead of dishwasher detergent, bringing laughter to an otherwise serious situation.
Topics covered included, responsive behaviours and communication, strategies to cope and succeed, accepting help from the community, the circle of care process and taking care of yourself as the caregiver. Representatives from the Dufferin County Alzheimer Society, One Energy Center, CBI Health Team, Dufferin Area Family Health Team, Behavioural Support Champions from both Shelburne Residence and Dufferin Oaks made the workshop complete, providing the much needed information.
