On the morning of Saturday July 13th a Shelburne police officer was conducting radar speed enforcement on 30th Sideroad near Victoria Street in Shelburne. This section of roadway is a posted 60kph zone. The officer first heard the car coming in his direction – then he saw the white Mazda Protégé approaching at an incredibly dangerous speed. The radar locked on the car at 141 kph. That’s 81 kph over the limit. The driver, 24 year old Percy Telfer-Freeman of Cambridge was charged with stunt driving under the Highway Traffic Act. His driver’s licence was seized on the spot and suspended for 7 days. His vehicle was also impounded for 7 days. The driver was given a court date in August to answer to the charge. If convicted he faces a minimum fine of $2,000 and a maximum fine of $10,000. The Shelburne Police is reminding everyone to drive safely – including at a safe speed. Higher speeds increase the risk of a collision as well as the seriousness of a collision.
