Passed out driver arrested for impaired

At 1:30 a.m. on Saturday July 13th Shelburne Police responded to a call for a male who appeared to be passed on in the middle of the roadway at Main Street and Owen Sound Street in Shelburne. When officer arrived they found a male in the driver’s seat of a red Ford pick-up truck, partially stopped in the intersection. Officers approached, noticing the brake lights were on, the truck was idling and the transmission in drive. The driver, the only occupant of the vehicle was passed out in the driver’s seat with his foot on the brake. Officers noted evidence of alcohol consumption and initiated a roadside investigation. The male was so intoxicated that he needed to be transported to Headwaters Health Care Centre for assessment and treatment. The investigation is continuing however the driver, 44 year old Robert Cheesman from Port Elgin, has been charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code. He has been given a court date later this month.
