Holiday Hours
Closed Thursday, December 24th and re-opening Monday, January 4th.
We encourage you to take out lots of books for the holidays so that you are not without your favourite author especially if we get a white holiday season.
Sunday, December 20, 2015: 1–4 p.m.: Holiday table or mantel centerpiece.
Your last chance to sign up for this workshop… we do have a good number signed up but have room for two more. Let us know at 519 925-2168. This time it is an indoor table centerpiece. All the flowers, greens and other materials will be supplied at a cost of $40. You will learn skills so you can create beautiful flower arrangements for any occasion.
Children’s Programs
Thank you to all who came to the puppet show on Saturday Dec. 12 and brought lots of generous food donations. Those donations along with our Food for Fines initiative enabled us to send a huge box to the Shelburne and District Fire Department and one to the Christmas Hamper program. This will be a Merry Christmas for many families this season.
Last story time for this year, Friday December 18 at 10:30 a.m. and will start again Friday, January 15 at 10:30 a.m. Thank you to everyone for participating this past year in all our programs. We are taking a survey to determine what would be good times for Lego clubs for the younger children? We would like to start a group for 2–3 year olds and one for 3–6 olds. Please let us know. There will be survey forms at Story Time this Friday or you can call and let us know.
We will also be starting a Super Readers Club in the New Year… lots of good reading and lots of prizes for meeting your reading goals
Teen Scene
Teen Scene members spent last Thursday night decorating gingerbread houses! Some teams produced beautiful, well-manicured pieces, others saw a terrible end come to Santa. These unique creations are currently on display at the Library so you can vote on the winner. The winning team will have an early Christmas, as they will be the lucky winners of a YA book basket prize! Voting ends Dec. 16th at 5 p.m.
We will also be having our final Pizza & Pages book club meeting this year, December 17th from 6–7 p.m. A discussion of Pfeffer’s Life As We Knew It will be held, in addition to a programming debrief, and exchange of what will be ahead for YA programming in 2016.
Lastly, teens have until January 3rd, 2016 to read books whose author’s surname starts with a letter from D-I, and for each qualifying book will receive a ballot to win a HUGE YA book bag! Included in this prize pack are books so new we don’t even own them yet! Happy reading!
New Books
We have so many new fiction titles for the holiday Season! Be sure to stock up by December 23 so that you are not without books for your holiday reading. Remember we are closed from Dec. 24th and open again on January 4th, 2016… yes, a new year!
