Shelburne Midget Rep wins Regional Silver Stick

December 22, 2015   ·   0 Comments

The Shelburne Midget Rep Team was victorious over the weekend by winning the 43rd Annual Wasaga Beach International Silver Stick competition! The Shelburne boys were relentless over five tough games this weekend beating out Norwich, Brock and last years OMHA Champions the Port Dover Pirates to face the mixed squad from Stayner/Wasaga beach in the final championship game. With one tie and three win’s entering the final, the championship game proved to be a no-contest runaway with Shelburne trouncing Stayner handily with a 7 goal margin to finish on top with an 8–1 win. With about 50 per cent of the team remaining on from last year’s OMHA Finalists, many of the boys particularly relished their 2–0 win against Port Dover and were quick to message last year’s coach Mike Glassford with the good news; Shelburne lost to Dover last year in game seven of the OMHA Championship Finals. The Silver Stick Tournament began in the late 1950’s and was created to promote Citizenship and International Goodwill between teams from Canada and the USA. There are a total of 18 qualifying regional US tournaments and 26 from across Canada; the last time our Midget entry won the regional division was 1993–1994. The Midget Rep’s now move on to Forest, ON starting Jan. 8th to face other regional Silver Stick winners in what should prove to be great international show-down hockey! Great win Midget boys and good luck in the International Silver Stick Finals!
