One Good Coat

Deborah McAuslane of Shelburne has been collecting winter coats for the past two weeks. She doesn’t have a shopping addiction, rather she is collecting previously loved coats for those in need.
McAuslane came up with the idea to start a coat drive when she realized that she herself had more coats than she needed, and this winter less fortunate Shelburne residents may not be able to afford a new coat for themselves.
McAuslane drew up a flyer asking: “Does anyone have a good coat that they don’t wear anymore? Did you know that there are people young and old that may appreciate your extra coat?” and distributed the fliers to five local schools.
McAuslane teamed up with her colleague Barb Bazin at her workplace (RE/MAX Real Estate Centre Inc., Brokerage, Shelburne) to ensure the coat dive, they have since dubbed ‘One Good Coat’ was a success.
For the past two weeks coats have been coming in like crazy and McAuslane and Bazin will be distributing the coats next week.
“We’re gong to have a pizza party for the high school students who have helped us with this. They’ve just been terrific,” McAuslane told the Free Press.
For community members who would like to participate, McAuslane said, “Please go to your closet and bring that extra good condition coat to our office or the local high school. They will be cleaned, sorted by size, and redistributed where needed in all of our local schools as well as our senior community. New coats or gently used coats are appreciated.”
Arrangements can also be made to pick-up any coats that you would like to donate to this terrific cause.

• Centre Dufferin District High School – 150 4th Avenue.
