Cubs 1–2 after three games

May 23, 2013   ·   0 Comments

The first inning of Wednesday’s North Dufferin Baseball League game between the Mansfield Cubs and the Ivy Leafs certainly provided some entertainment you don’t see every day on the ball diamond.

With the Leafs taking the first at-bat, it was only a couple of pitches into the game before an Ivy batter knocked the ball out of the park deep on the left side of centre field.

It was a pretty impressive hit for sure.

Then, with two runners on base, a second home run that dropped the ball into almost the exact same spot as the first homer, gave the Leafs a 5–0 lead before the Cubs even got up to bat.

It was a tough act to follow for the Mansfield squad.

“It’s a hitters game today, for sure,” quipped Cubs coach George Lingers.

While a strong wind blowing across the field may have helped those balls get out of the park, you can’t deny hitting talent – especially when Mansfield’s Rob Kinsley got up to bat and hit the ball out of the park in the second inning – his third HR in three games.

Kinsley followed up with another home run single to bring his total to four home runs over three games including a grand slam in the Cub’s game against the Barrie Angels.

The Ivy team dominated the latter part of Wednesday’s game scoring nine runs in the final three innings to leave with a 14–3 win over the Cubs.

After three games, the Cubs have a 1–2 record.

Their first game against Barrie ended with a 13–4 win.

Game two against Angus resulted in close 5–4 loss to the Black Sox.

The Cubs will have two away games against the Orillia Majors on May 22, and the Angus Black Sox on May 23.

They will return to their home diamond in Mansfield to host the Lisle Astros for an afternoon game on Sunday, May 26. The first pitch is schedule for 5 p.m.
