Muskies in fifth place in North Division

The Shelburne Senior AA Muskies are still looking for the couple of games that will push them to the plus side in the standings in the North Division of the WOAA.
After Saturday (Oct. 31) night’s home game against the Shallow Lake Crushers, the Muskies are in fifth place in the Division with a 2–4–1 record and five points.
The Muskies gave up a 6–1 loss to the Crushers in a game that saw the visitors notch a pair of early first period goals when the Shelburne squad had a defensive breakdown that left the Muskies goalie wide open.
The squad still played a good game for the night but just couldn’t bury the puck in the Crushers net.
“We’re hanging in there. We’re trying to take the small steps,” said Muskies GM Barry Trood. “We’ve got a lot of new players and a full line-up for all the games. We’re taking small steps to move up in the standings.”
The goal now is to keep playing and trying to get some wins to stay in a good place as the League schedule moves forward.
“We’re in the middle of the pack. This is a big game for us tonight. We want to get a win out of this one and keep us with the pack. We don’t want to get separated from the pack,” Trood said of the goal over the next few games.
The team has ten returning players from last season.
“We’ve got solid goal tending. It’s probably our strong spot with Ed (Davey) in net. We’ve two strong forward lines and not bad in the third and the fourth.”
The Mapleton–Minto 81’s are currently leading the Division after going undefeated in five games. The Crushers are close behind with a 4–1 record and eight points for the season.
The Durham Thundercats and the Ripley Wolves fill in the fourth and fifth spots followed by the Muskies.
The Muskies will have their work cut out for them this weekend when they host Mapleton–Minto at the CDRC on Saturday, November 7.
The puck drop for this week’s home game is scheduled for 8 p.m.
