The Friends of The OPP Museum will host their third annual bike ride fundraiser, known as “Pedal for the Past”, on Friday, September 6, starting from OPP General Headquarters in Orillia and progressing through the lovely rolling farmland of Oro-Medonte.
Funds raised by the ride go directly to supporting The OPP Museum’s mission of preserving and explaining the history of the OPP and policing in Ontario. In the first two years, riders participating in Pedal for the Past raised almost $60,000 which has been devoted to the preservation of museum artifacts, including the detailed restoration of a 1931 Henderson motorcycle.
Riders must raise at least $200 in pledges to follow a 50 or 100 kilometre road ride or, new this year, a 25 kilometre ride on the rail trail between Barrie and Orillia. The event is designed to be accessible to riders of all ages and skill levels.
In return, riders receive ride support, a high-quality customized cycling jersey and a post-ride barbecue. Organizers are also hoping the Georgian College massage students will return this year – post ride massages were a popular activity last year. The top three fundraisers will also dine at a later date with OPP Commissioner Chris Lewis as a special thank you.
Interested riders should visit the Friends of The OPP Museum web site for registration forms, pledge sheets and detailed information. They can also see photos from past years and check out this year’s jersey design. Visit: http://oppmuseumfriends.ca/?page_id=144
