The Shelburne Wolves Bantam LL1 team captured the Georgian Bay Tri-Country ‘B’ championship with a 4-1 win over the Oro Thunder on Sunday, March 20.

It was Game Two of a best of three series. The Wolves won the first game of the series 4 – 3 on March 11, on Thunder home ice.

The final game saw the Wolves score early on a goal from Patrick O’Reilly.

The Wolves went ahead by two when forward Jaden Way charged down the middle of the ice, deked through two defenders and took the shot from an angle to pick off the corner of the net.

Returning for the third period, Shelburne’s Sheldon Holmes got Wolves goal number midway in the period.

The Thunder got on the scoreboard seconds late when they took the face-off down to the Shelburne goal.

O’Reilly got his second of the game with 4:28 remaining and the Wolves took the win and claimed the championship when they held on for the rest of the game.

Wolves goalie Tristan Szymanowski had a solid game in net making several incredible saves for the day.

“We played awesome this season,” said Wolves head coach Joel Rooyakkers. “Everyone played good. It was a good game altogether. We had some bad penalties but that comes with the territory.

“Everyone started playing their positions near the end of the season,” he added, of the improvement he saw in the Bantams over the course of the season.

That’s the end of the League season for the Bantams but they will play in one more Bantam tournament in Sudbury in April.
