Baltimore, ON was the venue for Shelburne’s Midget Rep team this Easter weekend, to battle it out against several Rep teams that had travelled far and near for this annual Cross Border Clash Ice Hockey Tournament.
Guns blazing, Shelburne’s Rep team excelled in their first game against Ottawa with a clear win of 6-1. No contest for the boys representing Shelburne, as they kept hold of the puck for the whole game and swiftly netted the 6 goals and walked away with confidence.
The second game in Port Hope on Saturday, March 26 proved to be tougher against Gloucester, and speed was the essence of the game, bringing home a win and final score for Shelburne of 7-2.
Game 3 Saturday eveningwas against Minto, a team more local to Shelburne that seemed to have the same skill set and it took time for any goals to be netted.
Every player on both teams wanting this win, showing signs of tiring, Shelburne held up the defences strong and finally clinching the deal with a 5-2 win.
Having the top score in their class as an A Pool team, Shelburne was ready and waiting for the championship game on Sunday against Ottawa. The game was tense with a tie all the way through. The final score of 3-3 took the game into overtime of four on four and then three on three.
Shelburne just couldn’t keep up the speed of this team, and down to two on two, Ottawa snuck a winning goal into our net in the last five seconds to take home the championship.
Shelburne excelled through all four games and fun was had by all; a great end to a fantastic season for this team of talent and skill.
Ending the hockey season and losing seven of the third year players, SMHA would like to wish them every success in moving on, and a big thank you to all the loyal parents, coaches and the teams’ sponsors, without whom this would not have been possible.
For those still around, we look forward to seeing you next season.
