Unseasonably cold weather has been playing havoc with local sports teams as spring just can’t seem to make an appearance.
The sudden cold snap over the weekend caused games to be canceled around the region.
Six scheduled games on the North Dufferin Baseball League senior scheduled had to be rescheduled after snow flurries on Sunday morning made diamonds unsuitable for play.
The Mansfield Junior Cubs got their Saturday game in, but their Sunday game against the Ivy Rangers had to be called off.
In the senior division, the Mansfield Cubs didn’t make it to their scheduled evening game in Alliston against the Allison Athletics.
The Cubs were looking for their first win of the season.
The Senior team took a loss in their first outing of the season when they went up against the Creemore Barons.
It was a bad fifth inning when the Barons scored seven runs to pretty much end the game and deliver the Cubs’ first loss of the year.
The Club took another loss on Wednesday, May 11, when they hosted the Clearview Orioles in Mansfield.
Sunday’s cancellation means the Cubs will have to reschedule the game against Alliston later in the season.
They have two road games scheduled for this week before returning to their home park in Mansfield on May 25, when they will host the Orangeville Giants.
That game is scheduled for 6.30 p.m.
