With the arrival of warmer weather, the Town of Shelburne is set to begin a road resurfacing project on Main Street.

The Town issued a notice on April 20, advising local residents and business owners along Main Street East of the upcoming road work, which is scheduled to start May 3.

According to the Town notice, work will include milling the roadway, replacing poor or damaged curbs and gutters, applying hot mix asphalt, and replacing paving stones. The resurfacing work will extend along Main Street from Owen Sound Street to just east of Jelly Street.

Jim Moss, director of development and operations, said the Town has applied four times in the past to receive funding from the province for the road project.

“We were successful in getting funding, so that’s why we’re moving forward with the paving part of Main Street,” said Moss.

During construction parking on the street will not be possible, but alternative parking locations will be available at William Street and Wellington Street.

Moss said that they don’t expect there to be any traffic impacts.

“We plan to have two lanes open, one eastbound and one westbound, and that may push some of the traffic into the parking spots while they’re milling down the pavement and laying the new asphalt on top,” said Moss. “We don’t expect we’ll have lanes of traffic closed.”

Resurfacing work will begin on May 3, by Coco Paving Inc., and is expected to finish on June 17. Work will occur between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Town says during the hours of work there is the potential for “typical” road work noise.
