Dufferin OPP charge man with trafficking meth following traffic stop

Members of the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police laid multiple charges as a result of a traffic stop in the Orangeville.

Officers with the Dufferin Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) stopped a driver for a highway traffic act related offence in Orangeville on Wednesday (April 26). The officers were led into a criminal investigation which resulted in charging the driver with multiple offences.

Travis HEWITSON, 32-year-old, from Arthur, has been charged with:

• Possession of property obtained by crime – Under $5,000 – Criminal Code

• Possession of Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – Methamphetamine – Controlled Drugs and Substance Act

• Drive vehicle of boat with cannabis readily available – The Cannabis Act

• Fail to comply with probation order – Criminal Code

• Possession of forged document with intent – Criminal Code

• Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – Criminal Code

• Driving while under suspension – Highway Traffic Act

• Use plate not authorized – Highway Traffic Act

As a result of the investigation, the following was seized: Methamphetamine, over $1,000 in Canadian currency, a cellphone, cannabis, a forged Ontario drivers license and unauthorized vehicle plates

The accused was transported to the Dufferin Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police and held pending a bail hearing. These charges have not been proven in court.
