Stevenson Memorial Hospital will be able to maintain its care for kidney dialysis patients after receiving a large donation to upgrade existing equipment.

The Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF) announced in a press release on Tuesday (May 21) that they had received a donation of $300,000 from The Morningview Foundation to go towards replacing an existing Reverse Osmosis System at the hospital.

The foundation said the donation from The Morningview Foundation will help ensure that dialysis treatments will remain accessible to those in the community affected by kidney disease.

“Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation extends our greatest appreciations to The Morningview Foundation for their significant gift,” said Melody McLean, director of development and campaign manager for SMHF. “They are truly making a difference by helping to provide critical health care technology in our community.”

The Reverse Osmosis System purifies the water used in dialysis machines, ensuring the removal of impurities and contaminants. By providing a reliable source of purified water, the hospital is able the enhance the safety and effectiveness of dialysis treatments, reducing the risk of complications and infections.

According to Stevenson Memorial Hospital, they were able to provide over 3,6000 dialysis treatments within the community between 2022 and 2023.

The Morningview Foundation’s mission is to raise funds, through initiatives such as the Because of you, we can Campaign, for essential equipment at the local hospital as the provincial government does not allocate funds for equipment, technology or furniture.

The Because of you, we can Campaign, is the largest fundraiser in the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation’s history. Donations received help purchase essential equipment, upgrade technology, and complete renovations for the redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital.
