Shelburne’s Dr. Amy Horvat wins Award of Excellence

Shelburne’s Centre For Health is proud to announce that after all of Dr. Amy Horvat’s hard work and dedication to the community of Shelburne, she has won the prestigious Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Family Physicians.

According to the College Of Family Physicians website, the criteria for winning such an award reads as follows, “The Award of Excellence recognizes outstanding contributions in a specific area pertaining to the specialty of  family medicine; patient care, community service, hospital of healthcare institutions, College activities,(CFPC or OCEP), teaching, research, or other elements of the academic discipline of family medicine…” By this criteria, Horvat was a shoe-in.

Dr. Horvat’s contribution to the community of Shelburne resulted in a viable and stable medical clinic with the most family physicians, six in total, and allied health services in Shelburne’s history! For that reason alone, many in Shelburne have their first family doctor in years.

Part of receiving the award is to be recognised and nominated by peers in the field of medicine.  Dr. D. Mallin was the lead in nominating Horvat for this award and Dr. Frank Martino, then President of the Ontario College Of Family Physicians stated, “Dr. Horvat is a shining example of the commitment and leadership that we wish to showcase and a true asset to health care in the Orangeville and Shelburne area.”

Horvat received the award in Toronto in the beginning of December 2013.

“It’s very unexpected,” commented Horvat, “I am not one who likes awards, but after all the hard work ‘we’ve’ done it’s nice to recognise staff. For me, it’s nice to be able to spread the knowledge about the work ‘we’ve’ done here and for the community.”

Horvat always refer to the phrase, “we” when acknowledging the award as she fully and completely believes, “We couldn’t have done any of this without our staff.”

Horvat would humbly never take credit for the entirety of the mammoth accomplishment that has improved Shelburne’s health care, placing the Shelburne Centre for Health in a league of its own. With many thanks and appreciation for this unprecedented commitment and determination to Shelburne’s health care, on behalf of the town of Shelburne, we congratulate Dr. Amy Horvat and staff for winning The 2013 Award of Excellence from the Ontario College of Family Physicians.
